The Igbo socio-cultural think-think, Aka Ikenga, has condemned the gruesome murder in Kano, of Mrs. Bridget Agbahime, a trader during an altercation, as premeditated action under religious garb.
They appealed to the police “to ensure that the mastermind of this murder and his cohorts must be charged to court promptly.”
“We demand most strenuously that they be used as an example so that other murders under the cover of religion will be stopped. We commend the Governor of Kano State as well as the police commissioner for their prompt reaction,” said Chief Goddy Uwazurike, President, Aka Ikenga, in a statement made available to News Express.
However, the group wondered why the Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II, “whose word is a religious law, has not led the battle to stop these bigots who believe they have the divine injunction to kill in the name of Allah.” It asked: “Must the Emir wait for a national condemnation to take place, as in Ese Oruru’s case, before he takes action: medicine after (death)?”
This, the statement noted, was of great significance, “because the people listen to the Emir on religious crimes. As a matter of fact, the murderers are expecting commendation, and not condemnation.”
