A non-governmental organisation, The Custos Care Foundation (CCF), has condemned in a viral video of dehumanisation and brutal treatment of a student in uniform at the Federal Government College, Enugu.
Outrage had greeted a viral video that circulated online at the weekend following the level of beating meted out to the male student.
The student, supposedly a junior student was seen sprawling on the floor while receiving some lashes from two students using their waist belts.
CCF in a statement urged the school management to take steps to identify and apprehend the students responsible for the act.
Managing Director of the Foundation, Mrs Egodi Igwe said: ?The Custos Care Foundation has received with deep concern reports of the dehumanizing and brutal treatment of a student in uniform allegedly at the Federal Government College, Enugu, as depicted in a viral video currently circulating online. CCF strongly urges the school management to take immediate steps to identify and apprehend those responsible.
?We unequivocally condemn this act of bullying and reiterate our firm stance against violence, particularly in educational settings. Such barbaric behaviour contradicts the peace and respect that should define our educational institutions, and it must be relegated to the past.
?It is imperative for all stakeholders to publicly denounce this incident and to take decisive action to bring those involved to justice.
?As a foundation that advocates for quality education for all, CCF remains committed to ensuring that every child in Enugu State and beyond can learn in a safe and nurturing environment.?
Earlier in the year, the leadership of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school vowed to stop brutalisation of students by their colleagues in the college.
Chairman of the School PTA, Chinedu Mbah, in his acceptance speech after his election, assured that junior students would no longer be subjected to the brutality by senior colleagues. (The Guardian)
