Killings: Igbo intellectuals send distress call to international community

Following indiscriminate killings of persons of Igbo nationality in Nigeria, a group, Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), an assemblage of Igbo intellectuals has called on the international community to take a closer look at the hostile climate developing in Nigeria.

A statement signed by six notable Igbo leaders: Prof. Uzodinma Nwala (President); Prince Elochukwu Amaucheazi (Vice President); Prof. Nath Aniekwu (Secretary); Dr. Dozie Ikedife (Chairman, BOT); Dr. Kalu Uke Kalu (Vice Chairman, BOT) and Col. Justino Ezeoke (Publicity Secretary), reminded the developed world that despite all evidences before them, they stood by and watched the first genocide in Africa, the ‘open-ended massacre’ of Igbos in Nigeria from 1966 to 1970. The statement urged the international community not to abandon the Igbo nation a second time.

It read in part: “The Nigerian sky is again laden with ominous signs and indeed Igbo blood is already flowing. But can the very same world and America stand by in 2016 and watch a dress rehearsal by Nigerian security forces as another massacre of Ndigbo is already afoot. Can the international community pretend to be unaware of the spreading of Boko Haram members across Igboland in the guise of armed Fulani herdsmen; and that a signal to attack Ndigbo in their homeland has just been given by the Nigerian Department of State Services by deliberately raising a false alarm of Fulani herdsmen being murdered in Igboland?

“Can the world pretend to be unaware of a strategy of Buhari’s security forces to equate the Indigenous People of Biafra with Boko Haram terrorists in order to criminalise them and as an excuse for another round of massacre.”

While calling on Russia, China and the European Union to take a stand on the development, the group regretted that rather than negotiate with Igbo groups demanding self determination, government prefers to pursue an Igbo annihilation agenda.
