Ondo State Government has called on the workers to suspend their ongoing industrial action while the negotiations continues as the government has assured that it will exploit all avenues to ensure that salaries of workers are paid in the state.
Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, declared this while addressing journalists after the negotiations meeting of the state government and the labour leaders in the state yesterday.
He said continuous strike will lead to avoidable loss of lives with the closure of hospitals and affect other essential services in the society negatively like waste management and others.
Akinmade who commended the labour union for their peaceful conduct during the strike action said not payment of salaries to workers in the state was as a result of the economic downturn in Nigeria which he said lead to reduction in allocation to the state.
He said that the Ondo State Government is irrevocably committed to prioritising the welfare of its workers and assured that workers in the state will get their full salaries. Mr Akinmade urged the workers’ representatives to show understanding with government stressing that government is exploring all avenues to ensure that salaries are paid.
