The United Nations (UN) has acknowledged the contributions of Rangers International Football Club through its foundation in pushing the ideals and attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The world body noted that the foundation’s strategic plans regarding community social impact programmes leading to SDGs attainment had earned the clubside membership of the UN agency, Football For The Goals (FFTG).
This is contained in a letter made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Media Officer of Rangers International FC, Enugu, Norbert Okolie, on Thursday in Enugu.
The letter was signed and endorsed by Maher Nasser, Director, Outreach Division, Department of Global Communications of the UN.
The letter reads In parts: “As a member of FFTG, Rangers International Football Club, Enugu, now has access to defined resources, content and specialised expertise within the United Nations (UN).
“The club is granted the opportunity to collaborate, through this initiative, in convening, discussions and events alongside the FFTG membership of fellow football stakeholders.”
Responding, the General Manager of Rangers International FC, Amobi Ezeaku, noted that the “achievement is great and cherished”.
According to Ezeaku, it is no mean feat to be so recognised by a global body like the United Nations.
He said, “It goes a long way in strengthening our resolve to make a positive impact in the lives of people through the game of football.
“With this, we have been further empowered to push on with our strategic plans on community empowerment and engagements.
“We are resolved to ensure that our club, Rangers International FC, becomes a champion for sustainable development and human rights as well as drives positive change within the football community and beyond.” (NAN)
