Crisis in UI as Management halts Stakeholders’ Meeting •Former SUG Presidents dragged to Police Station

Barely one month after the Management of the University of Ibadan (UI) locked the institution over a protest on the unjust rustication of a final year student, another crisis has just brewed as a result of the arrest of Tokunbo Salako and Babatunde Badmos by the Security Unit of the institution.

News Express learnt from sources in the institution that Salako and Badmos, popularly known as T.Cool and BB respectively, both former Presidents of the Students’ Union Government of the institution, were illegally arrested this morning. Salako and Badmos were arrested before a stakeholders meeting supposed to hold by 10am, at the Students’ Union Branch (SUB) of the school, and taken to the Sango Police Station.

Confirming the incident, another student said: “We can no longer hold the meeting because some security men came to harass and arrested the former SUG Presidents, T.Cool and BB. And now, they have been taken to the nearest Police Station at Sango. Viva Aluta.”

Yet another source said: “As I write to you, the school environment is full of security agencies.”

News Express reports that academic activities have been paralysed in UI since April 26, 2016, and the students do not have a hope of resuming to school anytime soon.
