Webmark Empowerment Foundation, in partnership with Rotary Club of Lugbe FHA Estate and Connect Her Network Foundation, has raised awareness about the critical impact of stressors on mental health.

The foundation stated this during a virtual event commemorating the 2024 World Mental Health Day on Saturday in Abuja.

The event Is focused on the theme “Health at Work,” highlighting the psychological effects of stress and its potential to lead to mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression.

Dr Saadatu Adamu, mental health rehabilitation professional, emphasised that “mental health encompasses how we think, feel, and act.

She noted that stress was a silent epidemic affecting individuals and society and advised learning to identify stressors and implementing coping strategies to reduce the risk of mental health disorders.

Adamu recommended proactive measures, including mindfulness practices, physical exercise, and social support systems, to prevent mental health disorders.

Also, Dr Maha Michael, a trustee member of Webmark Empowerment Foundation, cited World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics that approximately 50 million Nigerians suffer from mental illness.

He urged citizens to prioritise mental health amidst economic challenges and societal pressures.

Amb. Victoria Ojiah, founder of Connect Her Network, highlighted the unique challenges faced by marginalised groups, particularly women and girls.

She emphasised the importance of providing tools and resources to manage mental health effectively.

Mrs Alukwe Ugochinyere, programme coordinator of the foundation, reiterated their commitment to breaking the stigma associated with mental health disorders. (NAN)
