Residents lament poor condition of major road in Abia

The deplorable condition of Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene Road has become a source of worry for residents living in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

The residents have lamented the untold hardship caused by the flooded road that has taken over their houses and farmlands in southeast Nigeria.

They said the road infrastructure was in a state of disrepair as most of the potholes, due to lack of maintenance have turned into deep gullies that leave the buildings located around the road flooded when it rains.

A resident of the community, Ikenna Steve, told Channels Television that motorists and heavy trucks carrying goods were usually trapped and stuck for days while they trek or resort to motorcycles in order to get to their respective homes.

The Chairman of Ikwuano Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Christopher Ezeude, and the Traditional Ruler of Oloko Ikwuano, Eze Toti Igbokwe, appealed for an immediate intervention to prevent enormous loss of lives and properties during this raining season. (Channels TV)
