Activist condemns murder of innocent African by Greek Police

A human rights activist in Greece has condemned in strong terms the extra-judicial killing of an African trader by the police in Greece.

The victim, a 37 years old Senegalese man by name Barbakar Ndiaye, died at Thesio Train Station Athens, where he was selling his goods.

“They pushed him from bridge, and he fell inside the train station and died instantly,” lamented Greece-based Nigerian activist Nnamdi Obodoechi. “Barbakar Ndiaye left behind two children. It is so painful that the family has lost him in this tragic manner,” Obodoechi added.

Recalling circumstances that led to Ndiaye’s untimely death, the activist told News Express: “He did not commit any crime; they were dragging his goods and they started beating him and pushed him down from the top of the bridge. What kind of madness is this? Who is going to take care of his two kids?”

Obodoechi expressed outrage that after the murder, the police alleged that Ndiaye was killed in the process of fighting the police.

“This is way they have killed many immigrants,” he said. “Are Africans without rights just because they came to Greece? Even if they are animals, at leats animals also have rights. If you feel that anyone has committed a crime and you caught him as a police officer, the right thing to do is to take the person to court and let him be judged according to the law. You cannot take laws into your hands just because you are a policeman. Yahweh is watching and will surely avenge for us,” Obodoechi added.
