President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Mohammed Babandede as the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the appointment of Mr Ahmed Ja’afaru as the new Controller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS).

The appointments of Babandede and Ja’afaru are contained in separate statements signed by Mr Bassey Akpanyung, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Until his appointment, Babandede was a Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) at the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters.

NAN reports that Babandede replaces Mr Martin Abeshi, who retired from the Service at the end of his tenure.

The statement said that the appointment of Mohammed Babandede is to take effect from May 15, 2016.

Until his appointment, Ja’afaru was an Assistant Controller General of Prisons and was serving at the Prisons Headquarters in Abuja.

NAN reports that Ja’afaru replaces Dr Peter Ekpendu who retired from service on May 17, 2016 after the mandatory 35 years in service.

The statement said that Ja’afaru’s appointment took effect from May 17, 2016, the day Ekpendu retired from service. (NAN)
