Buhari changes mind at the last minute, calls off Lagos visit

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly made a last-minute change of mind regarding his scheduled and much hyped official visit to Lagos State, which would have started this morning. A report late last night by Channels TV said he would rather send Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to represent him.

The report quoted an unnamed Presidency source as attributing the decision to scheduling difficulties faced by the Presidency.

The source reportedly said: “President Buhari needs more time for Lagos and for Edo which had earlier been stepped down.

“As a result of this, the visit has been scaled down and he is being represented by the Vice President, who is going to Lagos to commission a few projects, leaving the rest for Mr President.

“The President will undertake the visits after the Ramadan.”

A statement issued at the weekend by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, had said that the State Government would formally welcome President Buhari on Monday, May 23, on a two-day working visit to the state.

The visit would have been President Buhari’s first official visit to the state since he assumed office about a year ago.
