Interim Super Eagles Coach Eguavoen
Augustine Eguavoen has reportedly stepped down from his position as the interim coach of the Super Eagles.
According to OwnGoalNigeria, Eguavoen said his assignment was limited to two matches.
The Nigerian tactician said he was given a mandate to oversee the Eagles matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, after which his task had ended.
I have been given a mandate to handle two games. I will want to say I am very pleased with the boys and again, thanks to the NFF leadership and all the boys who supported me in terms of discipline and working hard.
It ends today, which is the two games mandate. I cant talk about Libya, because I havent been told but I can talk about it a little bit in case we have another coach, we can talk about it, he was quoted as saying.
Eguavoen was appointed by the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following unsuccessful efforts to secure a permanent head coach for the national team.
He oversaw two qualifying matches for the 2025 AFCON against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.
His resignation comes immediately after Rwanda held Super Eagles to a goalless draw on Tuesday.
The NFF had in August announced the appointment of German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
Unfortunately, Labbadia suddenly withdrew himself from the deal to coach the Nigerian national mens football team.
Following Labbadias withdrawal, Eguavoen assumed the interim role of leading the Super Eagles for the fourth time in his managerial career. (Text, excluding headline: Daily Trust)
