The Nigerian Senate today abruptly cancelled its activities and adjourned for a week, so as to allow Senators from the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to attend the party’s forthcoming National Congress.
The sudden adjournment came shortly after the commencement of legislative activities. The motion was moved by Senate Leader Ali Ndume, owing to the fact that most PDP Senators were not present in plenary.
As a result, all matters on the Order Paper were stepped down until next week, precisely on May 12, when a large number of the lawmakers are expected to be available.
