The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has organised a town hall meeting, to look into the prevailing security circumstances in the state.

Over 200 traditional rulers and presidents-general of town unions were present at the meeting to fashion out a roadmap towards safeguarding Enugu State, following the Nimbo community attack.

In his address on Monday, Governor Ugwuanyi announced the activation of the almost moribund Neighborhoods Association Watch Group Law of 2006 to cater to security matters in all the communities of the state with initial 100 million Naira seed money.

Speaking in company of his deputy, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, he recalled the April 25 incident at Nimbo and extended appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari and others who condemned the deadly attack.

The Governor urged the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant rights bodies to investigate the Nimbo community deadly attack with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book and preventing future occurrence.

He called for the peaceful coexistence of community members with settlers and visitors, maintaining that the government is committed to the security of lives and property of the people in the state.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi clarified that the functionality of the community security effort was not intended to diminish the responsibilities and duty of the security agencies.

He urged them to continue to provide adequate security for the people while urging the people of Enugu to remain calm and peaceful in the face of the determination to embark on business with investors.

The traditional ruler of Eziama-Olo, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzo, and the President General of Amodo-okowa community, Bartholomew Ede, expressed satisfaction at the meeting and said that everybody must support government initiative financially and otherwise, in order to achieve security. (Channels TV)
