Council polls hold in Ondo, National Assembly bye-election in Yobe

Local government election is on-going in Ondo State even as the National Assembly bye-election takes place in Yobe State.

The council election is the first to be held in Ondo in eight years and is holding across the 203 wards in 18 local government areas of the state.

Ondo has 3,009 polling units and movement of humans and vehicles has been restricted between 7am and 4pm.

Over 6,000 security personnel have been deployed for the exercise which involves 10,000 ad-hoc election officials.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is favoured to sweep the election boycotted by the two major opposition parties, the federal-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the smaller Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In Yobe, the election is being held to fill the vacant seat left by Mrs. Khadija Ibrahim upon her appointment as Minister of State of Foreign Affairs.

Mrs. Ibrahim represented the Damaturu, Gujba, Gulani and Tarmuwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives before her nomination to serve in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The election is holding in Damaturu, the state capital, as well as Gujba, Gulani and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas, constituting the federal constituency.

Restriction of movement is in place in the constituency, with security operatives out in large numbers to ensure the orderly conduct of the poll in which four political parties, namely, National Conscience Party (NCP), Advance Congress for Democracy (ACD), APC and PDP are participating.
