The crisis afflicting the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) appears to be far from being over as Chief Maxi Okwu insists that he remains the party’s National Chairman despite yesterday’s judgment of the Appeal Court, Enugu Division, recognising Chief Victor Umeh as the rightful occupant of the position.
Addressing newsmen in Enugu on the court judgment, Okwu, who was elected during the party’s last National Convention held in Awka on April 8, said: “You may be aware that there is another judgment of this Court of Appeal. The judgment of an Awka High Court on our convention was upheld by this same Enugu division of Court of Appeal.
“As it is, there is now conflicting judgment of the Court of Appeal. It is unfortunate that the party has to go through another turmoil, but I know that it will end very soon. The party, under my leadership, is the authentic APGA; 18 members of Umeh’s own NWC are with me.”
Further downplaying the significance of yesterday’s judgement, Okwu said: “Umeh is a king without kingdom. He is a general without army; he can parade himself further but it will soon end.”
