‘Obiano is the only APGA leader’

‘Obiano is the only APGA leader’

The recent internal strife in some local government chapters of the ruling All Progressives Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State over who is the leader of the party in their areas has led to the party leadership in the state banning any member from describing himself as leader of the party at any level.

Speaking on the issue over the weekend, the State Chairman of APGA, Sir Nobert Obi, warned that henceforth any member who uses the appellation ‘leader’ would be dealt with accordingly.

He said in a statement: “It has been brought to my attention the rate at which some party members, stakeholders, officers and party stalwarts parade themselves and use the appellation leader of APGA in their various wards, local governments, federal constituencies and senatorial zones.

“Such undue and unconstitutional title often breeds rancour, disharmony and disorientation in the party and it is capable of further polarising the party as noted by the reconciliation committee.

“It must be stated for the records that such undue appellation is not recognised in the constitution of APGA. The only leader recognised in the party is the ‘National Leader’ which is deservedly occupied by His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra State and the Chairman of Board of Trustees of APGA.

“Any further recognition of any other member as leader shall be deemed as an affront on the position and office of the National Leader of APGA and such shall definitely attract severe punishment.”
