Abia at 21: We’re on the right track —Orji

As Abia State marks 21 years of its creation today (Monday, August 27), the governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has declared that the state has made tremendous steady progress.

Abia was created on August 27, 1991 by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida-led military government and Orji said the result has been a state full of opportunities and hope.

“Abia State has progressed steadily since its creation despite the challenges before it,” the governor noted.

“A lot has changed positively to the admiration of the citizens. Abia is a land of hope and opportunities. This 21st anniversary celebration provides the government and people of the state yet another avenue to thank God for his protection and mercies and equally reflect on the achievements made so far and the challenges ahead,” he added.

Governor Orji, in a goodwill message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Ugochukwu Emezue, paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of Abia, pointing out that the sacrifices they cannot be wished away.

According to him, the founding fathers having laid the foundation of the modern day Abia, they would forever be cherished, remembered and honoured by the government and people of the state.

The Abia Chief Executive promised that his administration was determined more than ever to impact positively on the lives of the citizens.

“Having provided security which is important, we will strive to complete the legacy projects initiated by this administration,” the governor said and called on Abians to keep hope alive and continue to support his transformation agenda.

As the activities marking the week-long celebrations reaches its climax with awards to distinguished Abians by the government, the governor congratulated the recipients, describing the gesture as a way of rewarding their contributions to the development of the state and charged them to remain steadfast and be good ambassadors.
