We didn’t favour music star Korede Bello during exams —NIJ Management •Denies victimising student-blogger

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has refuted unsubstantiated media reports of failing a student-blogger, Famuyiwa Damilare, who allegedly wrote against rising singer and fellow student of NIJ, Korede Bello, noting that that no student was being victimised, and that all their students merit the results they got: pass or fail.

Registrar of the institution, Mr Dotun Adenijo, reacting to the media report at the NIJ building in Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos, told News Express that the authorities are people of conscience, who would not want to favour one student against another. “We don’t fail students that deserve to pass. Everybody gets what he or she deserves to get. We are people of conscience and high moral integrity. So the story published about this claim is not true.”

According to him, Bello might not have attained the 70 per cent attendance required by the school regulations, “just like any other student in some courses. But for administrative reasons, the attendance was not used as qualification to write exams,” adding that Korede even attended classes more than some other students.

He insisted that Damilare was not being victimised by the management. “He and other students worked for, and deserved the marks they got.”

It had earlier been reported that Damilare, a student-blogger, was being marked down by the management for publishing a story that is considered ‘unfavourable.’ The report had earlier claimed that Damilare was failed in his courses, having two carry-overs in the process, while the Godwin hit star, Korede, passed all his papers.
