Obiano tasks South East traditional rulers on unity

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, yesterday reminded traditional rulers in the South East of the need for the Igbo race to embrace unity in pursuit of a common agenda.

He made the statement at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia when the Council of Traditional Rulers in the South-East paid him a courtesy call.

Obiano noted that if Igbos want to remain relevant in the scheme of things in Nigeria, there is every need for them to unite and speak with one voice.

He emphasised that the role of the traditional rulers in this stance is crucial since they are the mouth piece of their various communities.

The governor also harped on the need for the maintenance of the culture, norms and traditions of Ndigbo, which appear to have been overtly neglected by the people.

He r called on the traditional rulers to drive home the message of the preservation of the most cherished customs and norms of Igbos in their respective enclaves.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Council, Eze Ebelechidi from Abia State, commended the governor for his sterling achievements in the state. He said that the visit was part of their efforts to identify with the governors who according to him are the political heads in Igbo land.

Eze Ebelechidi noted that the visit was also geared towards having a strong common front towards championing the demands and interests of the Igbo people.
