The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kaduna State have vowed to continue to demand for the rights of workers in the midst of blackmail and intimidation by the administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

A press statement on Thursday in Kaduna signed by NLC State Chairman, Comrade Adamu Ango, and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Shehu Mohammed, said no amount of campaign of calumny from any quarters would deter the leadership of the unions from demanding for their rights and the rights of workers in the state.

According to the statement, “The demand for workers for a verification from indicating their choice to belong to the union or not is tantamount to an infringement on their fundamental human rights.

“Union membership is a constitutional issue which is above the jurisdiction of any state government. Labour unions would resist any attempt to polarise and create disharmony among its members.”

The union leaders advised workers in the state to remain resolute and be law-abiding while conducting their duties.

They also urged the state government to publish the names of those workers that they aid and abetted the ghost workers in the state, and to also make same available to NLC, TUC Kaduna state chapter for necessary action.

“Colossal amount involve of N500,000,000.00 per months; is big enough to assist the government in its developmental programmes in the state,” they said.
