Governor Emmanuel calls for reconciliation, strengthening of the bond of unity

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has called on Akwa Ibomites to use the period of the Easter celebration to show love to one another and reflect on the need to strengthen the existing bond of unity for the socio-economic and political development of the state.

The Governor made the call in a broadcast to mark the Easter celebration. He urged all to desist from divisive tendencies and other acts which tend to cause friction in the state, saying: “I want to use this opportunity to enjoin our people to show love to one another, to eschew tendencies that seek to divide us, to celebrate the goodness that is in us all, and disavow and ignore the antics of those who may wish to create a wedge between brothers and sisters. We should reject the activities of those who may wish to exploit our vulnerabilities for their group’s narrow or personal interests.”

He sued for a unification of the people in the desire to move the state forward and start a new conversation where the narrative would be that government alone cannot be the source of growth and sustenance but with the Dakkada spirit and enabling environment created by his administration all will rise and move to the tipping point of self actualisation.

The State Chief Executive said that his administration, in the last ten months, has pursued programmes and policies that directly Impact on the people and improve their well-being. He pointed out that communities particularly in Okobo and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas that had not enjoyed electricity for years now boast of power supply.

Mr. Emmanuel announced that bold steps have been taken to diversify the economy with the flag-off of the Cocoa Maintenance Scheme. He expressed optimism that the scheme will usher in the economic renaissance where employment opportunities would be opened up for the teeming youths who are equipped for the twenty-first century skills.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the improvement of infrastructure across the three Senatorial Districts in the state order to open the State for more economic activities, adding that his administration has met workers obligations through regular payment of salaries. “We have in spite of the paucity of funds, kept our obligations to our workers. We are working hard to expedite the process of biometric capturing so we can eliminate ghost workers and I want to appeal to those who are driving the process to ensure full execution and no false inclusion,” he stated.
