Super Eagles

Despite losing the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, the President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong, says the Super Eagles gave their best and fought till the end.
The Super Eagles lost to the host nation, Ivory Coast by 2-1 in a nervy finals.
Otuekong Nyong, stressed that the defeat should be a foundation upon which the team can blossom and become better in subsequent competitions.
He praised the players for their doggedness and fighting spirit, which he says took them to the finals.
This is a reflective moment for the team. The players can rise from this disappointment and become better. We still have the World Cup qualifiers coming up, in addition to other competitions, so we must not lose hope.
We must also thank the Federal Government of Nigeria for motivating the team and sending high-powered delegations to cheer them.
Great commendations to Nigerians too for their prayers and consistent support throughout the tournament. They showed enormous support and offered words of encouragement to the team.
To our members who covered the competition and survived against the odds, I say kudos to them, they worked hard and represented Nigeria in so many positive ways. We are proud of them and assure that we will continue to champion their professionalism, he stated.
