A shocking footage has emerged showing a monkey being teased with beer by its cruel owners then suffering what appears to be a fit of distress.

The footage shows the monkey tied up next to the cage and a man standing just out of vision, pouring beer into the monkey’s mouth from above.

“The tiny animal then begs for more, becoming extremely distressed as the owner takes the huge bottle away, suggesting that they may regularly feed the monkey alcohol,” says a Daily Mail report.

According to the report, “Desperate for the bottle, the animal lunges forward but is tugged back by the wire attached to the cage and what looks like a nappy that keeps the chimp where it is.

“It rolls around in the dust and thumps and sweeps up the dirt with its hands in a state of distress.

“The man eventually hands the bottle over, and the animal, believed to be in Libreville, Gabon, Africa, pours the contents down its throat as onlookers shout, jeer and laugh.

“The footage then cuts to another shot, in which they tease the monkey with a second bottle of beer.

“Yet again, the monkey screams and rolls around when they try to take it away, launching itself at the man holding the bottle, which is almost as tall as the animal.

“This time, it throws itself onto the ground face-first and flails its arms and legs in a swimming motion on the grass, then picks itself up and sways side to side on its feet.

“They then hand over the second bottle, and the monkey swigs it in seconds, discarding it just inches from where the last empty container lies.

“But moments after downing the liquid, the monkey embarks on another crazed tantrum, launching itself across the floor and letting out ear-piercing screeches.

“It is not uncommon for monkeys to develop a taste for alcohol. In The Caribbean, native vervent monkeys are known to steal discarded drinks left by tourists.

“Chimps in Bossou, Guinea, have also been found to drink a fermented sap found in the wild in order to get drunk.”
