Police detains Biafra youth leader

Deputy President of Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL), Ebuta Takon, has been arrested and unlawfully detained by the Nigerian Police Force in connection with the Biafra struggle, the group said.

Quoted eyewitness Elvis Nkwam as disclosing that Takon was arrested at 7pm at the inaugural meeting of BNYL Etung LGA Chapter in Cross River State.

President of BNYL, Prince Chimezie Obuka, in the statement warned that the continued detention of his deputy would spark violence as he has committed no offence.

Obuka said: “We have been peaceful and law abiding, so why this arrest and why now that our congress is drawing near.

“I urge the Police to unconditionally release Takon before they worsen the situation.

“It’s not a crime that to agitate for Biafra, members of the BNYL in Cross River have every right to self determination as recognised by UN.”
