Fuel Scarcity: Special Task Force raids black market operators

Security operatives have commenced an enforcement of ban on all forms of road side and illegal sale of petroleum products in jerry-cans, drums and open tanks within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis in Plateau State.

Officers of the Special Task Force and Operation Safe Haven carried out the raid on Saturday.

Several equipment used by the illegal dealers operating around the vicinity of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station were confiscated while some operators were arrested during the raid.

The Commander of the Special Task Force, Major General Tagbo Ude, led the operation that raided one of the major spot of the illegal petroleum dealers’ site located near the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) station in Jos.

During the operation, several items ranging from plastic jerry cans of various sizes, drums, and barrels filled with petroleum products were distributed to the public freely.

Having complained to the security operatives about the activities of the black marketers operating near the NNPC mega outlet, Dealer Representatives of NNPC mega station, Bernardo Terreno, explained how the security operatives came to the rescue of the station and denied any involvement of the station in the illegal activities.

Motorists also expressed satisfaction with the security agents’ operation believing that such action would rid the state of illegal marketing of petroleum products and invariably for such to be available at petrol stations.

With the security agents raiding and confiscating equipment of the illegal dealers of petroleum products within the metropolis, there should be proper monitoring of petroleum products allocated to the state by the Department of Petroleum Resources in order to avoid and prevent diversion of such products to other places and make the product available to motorists.
