Engineer Mansur Ahmed, former Group Executive Director (GED), Refining and Petrochemicals, of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been released by kidnappers.
Family sources who spoke to journalists on Saturday evening in Kaduna confirmed his release.
Engineer Ahmed was allegedly abducted at Jere, Kaduna State, along Abuja-Kaduna road around 7:09pm on Friday while on his way to Kaduna.
“Yes, he was kidnapped yesterday (Friday) evening between Magrib and Isha’i at Jere while traveling from Abuja to Kaduna. He was released this morning without paying any ransom and has since returned to Abuja,” a family source said when contacted at the Link Road residence of Mr Ahmed in Kaduna.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Zubairu, when contacted on phone said the police was not aware of the development.
“We have no such report of kidnap of this abduction,” DSP Zubairu said.
News Express reports that Mr Ahmed was among four GEDs and 28 other management staff of the NNPC that were sacked in a major shake-up by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
