Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday kicked off the distribution of relief materials worth about N20 million to the victims of last year’s flood disaster in parts of the state.
The materials, which were donated by the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, include beans, garri, maize and thousands of bags of cement.
Three of the affected local government areas of Ogbaru, Onitsha North and Onitsha South received their materials on Thursday at the SEMA headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the executive secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, a director in the agency, Mr. Chukwudi Onyejekwe, explained that about 300 victims would benefit from the exercise.
Some of the victims however expressed gratitude to the state and federal governments for coming to their aide after the disaster that took over their homes.
News Express recalls that SEMA had before now distributed relief materials such as buckets, palm oil, vegetable oil, bedding materials, zinc, ceiling boards, nails, as well as bags of rice and cement, to flood victims in Anambra East, Anambra West, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Ogbaru, Awka North, Onitsha North and Onitsha South.
