AFCON: Eagles goalkeeper Nwabali breaks 44-year record

Brilliant Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali on Friday broke a 44-year record for goalkeepers as the Eagles advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwabali surpassed Best Ogedegbes 1980 record and Alloy Agus 1990 three-game streak for Super Eagles after keeping a clean sheet against Angola at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Prior to the Angola game, Nwabali had kept clean sheets against Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau.

He has played five games and conceded only one goal against Equatorial Guinea, the least of any goalkeeper in the Nations history.

The Chippa United goalkeeper will want to build on his stellar performance when Nigeria plays the winner of South Africa vs Cape Verde in the semifinals.

Nwabali has helped Jose Peseiros men to qualify for the semi-final of the AFCON with his confident passing, precision in claiming crosses and composure between the posts. (The Nation)
