A Tinubu Magistrates Court, on Thursday, sentenced a 31-year-old man, Rasheed Adewole, to one-year imprisonment, for allegedly defrauding a man of N200,000
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
Delivering Judgment, Magistrate Mrs A.T Omoyele, held that she convicted and sentenced the suspect based on his plea of guilty to the offence.
Based on the facts of this case, confirmed reports and the plea for leniency, I hereby sentence you to one month in prison without an option of fine, she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on Jan. 30, on a charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Koti Aondohemba, told the court that Adewole committed the offence between Nov. 2023 and Jan. at Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Aondohemba said that the convict obtained the money on the pretext of repairing the accident vehicle of Mr Temitope Akinbobola, who is the complainant.
The prosecutor said that Adewole requested for N200,000 for the job and was fully paid, but failed to do the job and converted the money to his use.
The prosecutor noted that the sections contravened Section 314 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
