4 nabbed over child trafficking

Four persons, including a homeopathic medical practitioner, Dr. Ossai Odilie, a nurse, Miss Chidimma Nzeh, and two others have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over alleged trafficking in children.

Also arrested is a student nurse, Miss Ogechukwu Nzegwu, and one Anthony Molokwu of Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency for faking a lab technician.

Others on the police drag net are two cult suspects, namely Chinedu Togbo (22) and Maduka Odoh (21). The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ali Okechukwu, said the two suspects were arrested at Enugwu Agidi junction along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on March 1st, 2016 and one single barrel gun and two cartridges recovered from them.

Another suspect arrested by the police was Onyeka Nwankwo (22), who was arrested at Isiowulu Odume, Obosi, in Idemili North local Government

The suspects were paraded by the PPRO on Thursday at the state police headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

According to Okechukwu, the suspects were arrested on March 11, 2016 following to a credible information received from members of the public.

In his words, “The command’s operatives stormed the hospital at No 99 Unatico House, Upper Iweka, Onitsha where two pregnant women, one 16 years old and the other 22 years old were evacuated.

“The Homeopathic Doctor had operated upon a pregnant woman who lost her baby and became critically ill, while another woman was delivered of a baby, which was sold to a ready buyer.

Ali noted that the two women were receiving treatment at the Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, following complications from the operation.”
