The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra State chapter, on Friday presented a prestigious award of Excellence to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye.
Presenting the award at the State Command Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka Local Government Area of the state, the SWAN Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, said that the award was aimed at appreciating the valuable contributions to the development of sports in the state.
He hailed the Initiatives of the police boss in promoting and supporting sports, urging him not to relent but rather do more.
Anaso also appealed to the CP to deepen the working relationship that he has opened with the association.
He used the occasion to inform him of its plan to partner the state command as the lead security agency to stage paramilitary games among all security agencies in the state in the first quarter of next year.
Responding, CP Adeoye described the body as one of its important stakeholders, noting that sports play a critical role in maintaining social harmony, physical fitness and peace.
He thanked SWAN for appreciating their modest contributions to the maintenance of law, and order as well as preservation of public peace.
The Police boss further pledged his support to the association of sports writers in the state in any capacity.
Speaking at the event, the former South East vice Chairman of the association, Chigozie Chukwuleta, urged the CP to consider building a female football team for the state command, saying that talents could also be discovered from there.
The duo of veteran sports writers, Emma Ndukuba and Jude Atupilazi, in their speech hailed the Commissioners unwavering commitment to sports development as well as his cordial relationship with the body in ensuring that sports remained a source of relief especially in the wake of economic downturn facing the nation.
