Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have reinstated their impeached Speaker, Hon. Jumoke Akindele, and her deputy, Hon. Fatai Olotu.
The reinstated of the duo was announced minutes ago in the House, barely 24 hours after they were impeached for alleged incompetence and high-handedness and replaced with the duo of Hon Iroju Ogundeji as new Speaker and Ayo Arowele as Deputy Speaker.
The impeachment was carried out by 18 out of the 26 members of the House and executed in the official residence of one of them at about 10pm. It was, however, reversed this afternoon following the intervention of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The House is dominated by the PDP with 21 and APC with 5 members.
The premises of the House of Assembly was this morning barricaded with armed policemen stationed at the entrance to forestall any breakdown of law and order as a result of the development.
