The University of Medical Sciences Ondo (UNIMED) is to commence nursing and pharmacy courses in the next academic session.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Friday Okonofua, made this known yesterday while addressing newsmen on preparations for the institution’s inauguration and first matriculation ceremony.
He announced that over 200 students from five departments of medicine, anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and dentistry will take part in the matriculation exercise bill for this Saturday.
Prof. Okonofua said: “The admitted students have completed orientation, registration formalities, and started lectures and now ready for the matriculation.”
The VC restated the university's commitment to establishing a pharmaceutical company that will produce locally drugs for use in the state and beyond.
The University of Medical Sciences, the first in Nigeria as well as West Africa, admitted its first set of students in January following successful approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as well as the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
