Governor Okezie Ikpeazy today swore in four new judges into the Abia State judiciary.
The new judges comprising three men and a female are Justices Anyim Chizaram Alfredo, Okereke Kenneth Chidi, Eruba Chibuike Livingstone and Nwankwo Kingsley Chukwudi.
Addressing the judges after they were administered the oath of office by the Solicitor-General, Enyinnaya Okezie, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Ikpeazu congratulated them on their appointments. He urged them to make their contribution towards quick and effective dispensation of justice in the state, while serving with diligence and commitment.
“You are to be the mouth piece and defender of the poorest of the poor and down trodden in the society,” he said and reminded the new judges that the task of adjudicating in cases “is enormous.”
He, therefore, urged them “to be fair, firm and courageous” in the discharge of their duties, adding the judges must strive to leave behind, good legacies in office.
The Governor, who later presented the new judges with brand new official vehicles, said the gesture is to help them discharge their duties more effectively and pledged to continue to assist the judiciary.
Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Justice Chizaram Anyim thanked the Governor for their appointments and pledged that they would not disappoint the confidence reposed in them.
With the new appointments, Abia now has 35 judges.
