The arrest, on Friday, of some political appointees and elected public office holders in Ekiti State by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) is part of a plot to coerce the state’s lawmakers to impeach Governor Ayo Fayose, the Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, has said.
He made the allegation while confirming the arrests to newsmen in Ado Ekiti.
The Speaker said that a member of the House had been taken to Abuja by DSS operatives, while the whereabouts of three other members remained unknown.
The DSS has yet to speak on the raids, which have attracted widespread condemnation.
Fayose, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is regarded as a thorn in the flesh of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which has continued to allege that he rigged the 2014 governorship election in the state, even after losing its court case over the matter.
