Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has assured of his administration’s determination to continue to ensure government presence on Tongeji Island by providing top notch public infrastructure in the border town.
The Governor disclosed thison Tuesdaywhen he hosted a delegation from the National Boundary Commission on a courtesy visit at his Oke Mosan, Abeokuta office.
While assuring of his commitment to ensure that Tongeji Island, a community that closely shares a border with the Republic of Benin will not go the way of Bakassi Peninsula, Governor Amosun said his administration will continue to provide good schools, hospitals and other social amenities in the area.
“We don’t want to cede any of our territory to any other country. We will do all that is necessary to ensure that Tongeji Island does not go the way of Bakassi Island,” Governor Amosun said.
The Governor also expressed his appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for directing that the Army, Navy, Police and other security agencies immediately establish and maintain presence on Tongeji Island.
Governor Amosun also urged the boundary commission to ensure a speedy resolution of other disputed boundary areas between Ogun and its neighbours including Lagos, Oyo and Ondo states.
Responding, Dr. Muhammed Bose Ahamad, Director General, National Boundary Commission, NBC, assured the Governor of the commitment of the commission to ensure that these boundary disputes are resolved.
He also expressed appreciation to Governor Amosun for what he described as his “proactive measures to ensure government presence on Tongeji Island.”
