Activist faults Buhari’s U-turn on N5, 000 for unemployed youths, demands apology

The Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, has strongly condemned the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill part of his electioneering campaign promises to provide social welfare of payment of N5,000 monthly stipend to the unemployed youths in the country. Suilaman demanded that President Buhari should tender unreserved apology from the people of the country, particularly the affected youths.

Reacting on the issue through a statement issued yesterday in Lagos, Comrade Sulaiman noted thatPresident Buhari’s pronouncement on the issue over the weekend in Saudi Arabia contradicts his government’s promised to ensure that the implementation of the “social welfare package” programmes in the 2016 Budget, upon which the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government planned to borrow over N2 trillion.

The rights activist maintained that most of the electioneering campaign promises of President Buhari and APC have been reneged without tangible explanation for such development, insisting that the present administration in the country has been making the Nigerian masses to be concluding that APC-led Federal Government does not have a solution to the nation’s problems.

According to him, “President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, All Progressive Congress (APC), just bamboozled the people of the country with sugar-coated mouth to win their votes during the 2015 presidential election process and throw them into towel after winning the election. Nine months to the President Buhari’s administration, nothing to show in term of single achievement in governance. Nigeria masses are wallowing in abject poverty and the present situation is not the kind of change the people voted for in March 28, 2015.”

The CHRSJ boss urged President Buhari to thread the path of honour and integrity to look inward to solve the mirage of problems facing the country by developing political will to fulfill his electioneering campaign promises including Payment of N5,000 Allowance to the unemployed youths, instead of gallivanting all over the globe to look for help in solving Nigeria problems.

Sulaiman, quoting APC National Leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s words during the recent University of Abuja Convocation ceremony, said that “Nigeria does not need patch-patch change currently experiencing from Buhari’s government,” stressing thatNigeria needs genuine fundamental restructuring both politically and economically.
