Anambra sports wars: Sheathe your swords, SWAN tells Sports Commission, Football Association

SWAN

By PAMELA EBOH, Awka

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter has called on the Anambra Sports Development Commission (ASDC) and the state Football Association (ANSFA) to sheathe their swords over an on ongoing impasse.

Recall that the state FA recently banned one Chijioke Onyedika, former state secretary of the association for a period of five years over alleged insubordination and failure to show up at various times he was called to defend himself, but the Commission overruled it (the ban) on the grounds that the body lacked the locus.

The Commission said Onyedika was only carrying out duties assigned to him by the government as its staff and does not belong to the board of the ANSFA.

But SWAN in a statement signed by Chmezie Anaso and Ikechukwu Nwokedi, chairman and secretary respectively.

In an 8 point statement made available to journalists in Awka, SWAN appealed for immediate and total ceasefire by all parties concerned.

The association frowned at the incendiary and inflammatory comments made directly by the two bodies and their proxies, describing the face-off as unhealthy for sports development in the state.

SWAN expresses its willingness to mediate in the impasse with a way to finding amicable resolution of vexed issues.

SWAN appeals for an amicable harmonious administrative environment for progressive development of sports.

We are reacting, not only because we were copiously copied in the letters by both the Government Institution and the Football Association but as critical stakeholders in the Anambra Sports sector.
