Jurgen Klopp wants Tottenham-Liverpool replay after VAR error

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has outlined his request for Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur to be replayed, following mounting VAR controversy around the Reds 2-1 defeat last weekend.

Here's what Klopp said In his Europa League pre-match news conference:

In responding to the VAR controversy from Saturdays Tottenham defeat, Klopp said: I think the replay is the right thing to do.

He added: Not as a manager of Liverpool but as a football person, I think the only outcome should be a replay. It probably wont happen. The argument will be if we open that gate everyone will ask for it. I think the situation is that unprecedented “ it didnt happen before.

Klopp believes the ideal outcome for when a goal is wrongly disallowed due to a VAR error would be for the referee to bring both managers together, so the situation could be resolved at the time.

He requested a stop to the criticism that the officials from Saturdays game are still facing: They made a mistake and they felt horrible that night, I am sure. Nobody needs further punishment.

The Reds boss reiterated his desire for a replay, adding: Im just not happy with what happens now. Its a heated conversation about people. There is a solution for it in a game, a massive mistake, correct it in that moment. But they thought its not what they can do. Lets do a replay, if it happens next time, give them a chance to do it like this.

Klopp was asked if the club have asked the Premier League about a replay, but a press officer explained that Liverpool were still assessing information. (BBC)
