The State Director of Sports, Faith Okwonna, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Asaba over the weekend.
According to her, the athletes who are camped at St Patricks College are well trained and battle-ready to represent the state.
She said: Anambra state athletes were physically and mentally ready for the competition. We are set to win more medals in the athletics and combat sports events.
The National Youth Games is for U15 athletes and we came with 18 sports; Anambra is prepared to get medals in all the sports.
Our strong areas are; athletics, chess, combat sports, and volleyball (male and female). Volleyball qualified from the South East elimination and I am expecting medals in both categories.
The Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS), Anambra State Chapter noted that the state Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, has motivated the team with adequate resources.
She urged the athletes to give their best during the games.
While saying that Soludo gave the team maximum support and sent the chief of staff to bid them farewell, she added that he (governor) also promised to reward athletes that win medals in the course of the game.
She added: I am sure the governors statement has motivated them to bring honour to the state.
My charge to the athletes is to be focused, determined, and give their best during the games. Anambra has been doing well in the Games but I have told them to put in more effort.
