As reactions continue to trail the Supreme Court judgement on the Governorship Elections petition in the country, a human rights organisation in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has applauded the apex court of the country (Supreme Court) headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Mahmud Muhammed for setting aside most of the Judgments of the Court of Appeals and State Governorship Election Tribunals, particularly, that of River, Taraba and Akwa Ibom states respectively, warning those who are criticizing the Supreme Court’s rulings to stop denigrating the intelligence of the apex court of the land.
It also commended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and other jurists of the apex court for giving the laudable judgment on the aforementioned States of the federation in particular, which reverted the bloody situation agenda of some politicians in the respective States if the
judgment is gone otherwise.
In a statement issued and signed by the CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniy, Alimi Sulaiman, the group maintained that the recent verdicts of the Supreme Court have restored and re-affirmed the hope of the common man in the nation’s judicial sector, noting that Justice kekere-Ekun and others judges who delivered the landmark ruling have
written their names in gold, adding that Justice Mahmud Muhammed under which the unquestionable rulings were made, would be remembered as revered judge like “Lord Denning of English Court.”
The CHRSJ boss who described the ruling as good development for the sustainability of the country’s democratic experiment, pointed out that the landmark judgments have relieved the country of oppression, pervasion of justice, disunity and disharmony.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court had on January 27, 2016 upheld the election of the two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors which generated hot reaction from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), having dismissed all the appeals challenging their electoral victory at the governorship polls conducted on April 11, 2015.
According to Sulaiman: “The people of the country should be grateful to Almighty God for using the Supreme Court of Nigeria Jurists to avert the bloody situation that might have occurred in some States of the federation had the rulings are delivered were to contrary. The Judges have done Nigerians proud for delivering an impeccable judgment that can be best precedent for the administration of justice in the land.
