Five ageing top socialites still on the prowl

Today, SHOWBIZ Xtra presents the concluding part of the top last five ageing socialites, beginning from Rasaq Okoya, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Oprah Benson, Florence Ita-Giwa, and John Abebe. Any big-time shindig without them may not be penned down as historic by those in the know. Now, enjoy this showcase.

RASAQ AKANNI OKOYA

This billionaire industrialist is one top socialite with a broad mind. He's naturally cheerful. At big-time parties, he disarms fellow socialites with his infectious smiles which pull the people closer to him faster than anybody around. With such plus on his side, he mixes easily and get things done in his favour. Feelers close to him maintained that this was how he grew Nigeria's business conglomerate, the Eleganza Group, which encompasses manufacturing, real estate, hospitality, etc. Besides the fact that the Aare of Lagos is usually happy to celebrate with people, he stamped this natural love with a yearly social ritual by simply gathering close friends, business associates and family members to frolic with him. From the foregoing, one can say categorically that the ageing socialite who is one vibrant soul at 83 fits perfectly into those with social likings and too much linings which suggests that only death can do them part with the owambe type of life.

SENATOR DAISY DANJUMA

The pretty legal practitioner is the wife of General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, a naturally serious-minded officer. The Auchi-born lawyer is a strong-willed socialite who pulls out her husband most times. Hence any media person’s satellite would always beam on her at any high standing socials. It is on good source that she graces events in grand fashion, decked in diamonds and designer's delight. The former Chairman SAPETRO, who belongs to society’s head turners in top-notch gatherings, has been fingered to own the largest collection of diamonds. The former Senator who represented Edo state at the National Assembly is just one woman who still loves to grace selected parties of class till date.

OPRAH BENSON

Her charming looks even at 88 years reminds Showbiz Xtra of Chief Oprah Benson's days in the 80's as the Yeye Oge of Fashion and Style in Nigeria. Her titillating ability to face the demands of social stress which has since remained a mystery to her fellow rockers of the scene who are yet to discover the magic of her still trudging ability despite the natural tears and wears. We reliably scooped that this woman of class and style has since learnt of the undying magic of reinventing herself relentlessly which may have kept her in the competitive social race till date.

SENATOR FLORENCE ITA-GIWA

The beautiful well-packaged Pharmacist who was the wife of late and celebrated journalist, Dele Giwa, is not just one of the most influential women in Nigeria of today. Her vibrant social links, no doubt, explains why she became so powerful in her socio-political standing in Nigeria. One interesting thing about her is that she has this special ability to make friends across ethnic divides. Aside from fraternising regularly with them, thereby servicing their relationship through such social platform, she also endeavours to do same to the political class through which she feathers her nest and getting whatever she wants from highly placed politicians. This could be confirmed quickly in the calibre of those who attended her daughter’s wedding in the year 2014. There’s no doubt that she made good money from such which automatically justified her social and political romance over the years. However, she ploughs back the dividends of such sizable cash to her Efik kingdom people by packaging a 3,000 displaced persons every Christmas. With this regular happy seasonal hours, she has successfully entrenched herself in the hearts of these people. Mama Bakassi has even taken this kind gesture to displaced Bakassi people occasionally by distributing relief materials which she bought with her cash.

JOHN ABEBE

He is the first son of Nigeria’s chairman of UAC, Pa Christopher Abebe, and elder brother to late Stella Obasanjo. John who is currently the Chairman of Inducon Nig. Ltd, a big time oil and gas concern, is your typical quintessential socialite who actually knows what a good party is all about. Feelers close to the light skinned John who is on first name basis with bunch of past and current rulers. He is seen as the soul of parties he graces. Those in his circle also see him purely as the perfect epitome of the old, yet young at heart, and naturally cut-out for such socials.
