The Federal Ministry of Sports Development has officially announced the postponement ofthe 2023 National Youth Games (NYG).

This wasdisclosed after a meeting between Ministry of Sports Development and the Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa in Abuja on Monday.

This years grassroots sporting event which is at its 7th edition was scheduled for September 10 to17.inAsaba, Delta state capital.

However, a new period of September 20 to 30, 2023 has been fixed, according to a statement by the federal ministry of Sports development.

The Ministry stated that the change in date was to allow more time for the operationalization of plans towards hosting a successful youth games fiesta.

It added that the Games will serve as a precursor to celebrate the nations 63rd Independence Anniversary, which will be marked on October 1st, 2023.

The Games is a talent hunt platform meant foryoung athletes who are under 15 years of age. (Daily Independent)
