An anti-corruption coalition group, Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), has invoked a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, demanding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), should furnish it with names of individuals who have refused to honour or cooperate with the commission concerning the Dasukigate scandal.

In its ‎FOI request made today and signed by the chairman of the coalition, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, CSNAC said the uncooperative attitude of some suspects has been a clog in the wheel of investigation and prosecution of those involved in the arms deal scandal.

CSNAC said: “In line with revelations made in the cause of investigating the misappropriation, misapplication and diversion by the former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki naming various individuals and organisations who illegally and inappropriately received various payments from the $2bn, hitherto approved for the purchase of arms to fight the insurgency in North East Nigeria.

“The commission in line with its mandate of prosecuting crimes associated with corruption and financial impropriety has invited some individuals who have been linked to the fraudulent and unauthorised payments.

“However, these individuals, in blatant disregard for the constitutional powers of the Commission have refused and/or neglected to honour the invitations or cooperate with the Commission in their bid to clog the wheel of progress of investigation efforts been made by the Commission.”

In the light of the above, the CSNAC, “therefore pursuant to Sections 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011 requesting for a comprehensive list of all individuals who have refused to honour the Commission’s invitation or and refusing to cooperate with the commission by refusing to refund their fraudulently obtained share of the fund.

“This information will enable us carry out our mandate of fighting corruption by naming and shaming the said individuals. We believe this will mobilise public protest against their crime and subsequent recalcitrance.”

“We look forward to receiving this information promptly, and in any event, within Seven (7) days of the receipt of this application as provided for in Section 4 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011,” the network said.
