Nigeria take on Senegal in their first game of the qualifying series by 5.00 p.m.
Speaking on the competition, the players, led by Coach Mike brown, said it presents another opportunity to show they are among the best teams in the world.
Speaking on the teams chances, Michael Eric, said DTigers have been primed for success against their familiar foes, Senegal, adding that the presence of all of Africas powerhouses in basketball is no threat to their ambition. The pre-tournament championship will end on August 20.
Meanwhile, world basketball ruling body, FIBA,has informed participants in the competition of the withdrawal of Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda from the tournament.
FIBA said it was informed by Congolese and Ugandan basketball associations of their decision not to participate in the tournament, adding: FIBA will investigate and assess the matter to determine any potential disciplinary measures.
As a result, in the Group A of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2023, Nigeria will be played with two teams, Senegal, and Mali The Group B will be played with three teams, Cameroon, Guinea and Tunisia.
The teams from each group will play against each other in a single round-robin format. The top two teams of each group after the group phase will qualify for the final phase. (The Guardian)
