BREAKING: Super Falcons on fire, vanquish World Cup co-hosts Australia

Asisat Oshoala celebrating her goal for Nigeria versus Australia

Nigerias Super Falcons turned on the magic late this Thursday morning/early afternoon (Nigerian time), coming from a goal down to beat 2023 Womens World Cup co-hosts Australia 3-2 in Brisbane.

Australia took the lead in 41 minutes after Emily van Egmond beat Nigerian keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The Super Falcons however swiftly fought back, with Uchenna Kanu leveling scores on the dot of 45 minutes.

The Nigerian girls turned on the magic in the second half, going ahead in the 65th minute through brave Osinachi Ohale, who headed into an empty net after Australia just failed to clear their lines there as Rasheedat Ajibade headed the ball down and across the face of goal for Osinachi Ohale to run it into the net.

The goal came off a move by Asisat Oshoala a minute after her introduction, but she was not yet done as she outran her markers to slot in the third goal in the 72th minute.

The Australians pulled another goal back with a minute of the 11 minutes added time left to leave scores at 3-2.

With the result, Nigeria, who drew goalless with Canada in their opening Group B game, leap to the top of the group but tied on points with the Canadians and looking set to land in the second round after their last group match against Republic of Ireland.
