Famous Nigerian economist, 3 others arraigned over homosexuality

Police in Kano State have arraigned famous economist and a proprietor of Hassan Gwrazo College, Prof Ibrahim Ayagi, in connection with the case of homosexualism in the school.

The police slammed an eight-count charge on Ayagi and three others which bother on criminal conspiracy, joint act, abetment, negligence and failure to give information on the homosexual acts in the college.

Ayagi is also facing a one-count charge of gross indecency in the school. The case, which is before Justice Aminu Kabara, of Court 5, Audu Bako Secretariat, Kano, witnessed sharp disagreement between prosecuting counsel, Ekwe Sunday, and the defence counsel, Abdurazak Bagwai, over alleged police violations of court order stopping further arrest of the accused.

Bagwai argued that the actions of the police by arresting the accused, who were earlier granted bail by the court, showed disrespect for the law.

But Sunday insisted that what the defence counsel said was untrue because the police were polite by inviting the accused to answer some queries but they refused which necessitated their arrest.

Kabara adjourned the case till February 29 for hearing.

However, the parents of the victims of the alleged homosexual in the college, Aminu Sheriff, Hajiya Maryam and Hajiya Fatima Naaba, accused Kano State Government of negligence and lack of concern for the plight of its citizens.

Their grouse was that the government lifted the suspension slammed on the college. (New Telegraph)
