The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for today, Friday, January 29, 2016:
NORTHERN STATES: Poor visibility in thick dust haze are expected to continue over Sokoto, Katsina, Maiduguri, Zaria, Potiskum, other cities to be affected are Gombe, Kano, Yelwa and Nguru. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 10-16oC.
CENTRAL STATES: Bida, Jos, Kaduna, Abuja, Lafia, Makurdi Ilorin and Yola will have visibility values in the range 1-3km in dust haze. Few locations may however be less than 1,000m. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 11-18oC.
SOUTHERN STATES: More dust from the central cities is expected to be transported to affect the southern parts, thus reducing visibility over places like Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Akure, Ibadan, Lagos, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Eket ,Enugu, Awka, Owerri, Obudu and environs to 1-3km. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 14-21oC.
NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
