U21 Nations Volleyball Championship: Nigeria beat Ghana to lift trophy

Nigeria U21 Womens Volleyball Team




Nigeria Womens Volleyball Team recorded their second win over Ghana 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) to lift the womens trophy at the just concluded 2023 African U21 Nations Volleyball Championship (Zone 3) in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Nigerias Coach, Rakiya Mohammed introduced her starting Six; Kelechi Ndukaba, Aisha Abdulraheem, Maryam Ibrahim, Sarah Ali, Deborah Chukwu and Mariam Usman which sent shivers to the spine of the Ghanaian team.

Nigeria wasted no time to show their dominance over Ghana winning the first set 25-10 points.They won the second and third set emphatically also to show their superiority over their West African counterpart.

The win secured Nigerias slot in the World U-21 Championship in Thailand later in the year.

An elated head coach of Nigeria U21 womens volleyball team, Rakiya Mohammed said the world is yet to see the best of the girls and that they would prepare for the 2023 FIVB U19 Girls World Championship slated for Croatia and Hungary even better than they did before the competition in Niamey.

She said: I am happy with the performance of the players from the beginning until the end. They showed determination, passion and zeal on the court. I want to assure you that the best of the girls is yet to be seen by the world.

Our next mission is to do well in the World Championship after we have asserted our superiority and dominance in the West Coast.

Immediately we end this championship, some of the girls will resume camp ahead of next months U19 World Championship.

Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod has applauded the performance of the National U21 women team.

He promised that the Nigeria Volleyball Federation will ensure the players get the maximum support to excel in subsequent championships.

Meanwhile, Benin Republic defeated Côte dIvoire 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) to finish third position in the mens category at the 2023 African U21 Nations Volleyball Championship in Niamey, Niger Republic on Sunday.

Benin Republic Chabel Gnanmou was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match. (The Nation)
